Secretary of the Senate

Legislative Role

The Secretary of the Senate is the chief operating officer of the Senate, under the jurisdiction of the Committee on Rules and Administration. The main duties of the Secretary are to serve as parliamentarian during floor sessions and to administer the internal operations of the Senate. A member or committee desiring to introduce a bill or a resolution must deliver it to the Secretary’s office to be prepared for introduction. The Secretary of the Senate is elected by the Senate at the beginning of the biennial legislative session, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Section 3.06.
