Present: Senator Jennifer A. McEwen - Chair, Senator Grant Hauschild - Vice Chair, Senator Gene Dornink, Senator Glenn H. Gruenhagen, Senator Robert J. Kupec, Senator Bill Lieske, Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten, Senator Sandra L. Pappas, Senator Nathan Wesenberg

Absent: Senator John Marty

Senator Jennifer A. McEwen called the meeting to order at 1:40pm.

Call to Order


S.F. 207: Senator Putnam: Safe Workplaces for Meat and Poultry Processing Workers Act.

Senator Aric Putnam joined the witness stand and presented Senate File 207.

 

Senator Putnam walked through the A-10 amendment.

 

Senator Glenn Gruenhagen moved the A-10 amendment be adopted.

            The motion carried along a voice vote and the amendment, adopted.

 

No witnesses were present to testify on S.F. 207.
 

Senator Bill Lieske moved the A-11 amendment be adopted.

            The motion carried along a voice vote and the amendment, adopted.

 

Commissioner Nicole Blissenbach, Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, joined the witness stand to answer member questions.

 

Senator Gene Dornink moved the A-12 amendment be adopted.

            The motion carried along a voice vote and the amendment, adopted.

 

Senator Gruenhagen offered the A-17 amendment.

            Senator Gruenhagen withdrew the A-17 amendment.

 

Senator Gruenhagen offered an oral amendment:

            Page 1 of the A-11 amendment, on line 1.23 delete “50” and insert “250.”

                        Senator Gruenhagen withdrew the oral amendment.

 

Vice Chair Grant Hauschild moved that S.F. 207 as amended be recommended to pass, and re-referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety.

            The motion carried along a voice vote.

 

Senator Hauschild moved that S.F. 207, as amended, recommended to pass and re-referred to the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee. - MOTION CARRIED.

S.F. 1885: Senator Kupec: Past pay employer inquiry prohibition.

Senator Rob Kupec joined the witness stand to present Senate File 1885.

 

Senator Kupec moved the A-1 amendment be adopted.

            The motion carried along a voice vote and the amendment, adopted.

 

Senator Lieske offered the the A-2 amendment.

            Senator Lieske withdrew the A-2 amendment.

 

Senator Kupec offered an oral amendment:

            Page 1, line 1.23, after “without” insert “asking, encouraging, or”

                        The motion carried along a voice vote and the amendment, adopted.

 

Senator Kupec moved that S.F. 1885 as amended, be recommended to pass and placed on General Orders.

            The motion carried along a voice vote.

 

Senator Kupec moved that S.F. 1885, be recommended to pass and placed on the Consent Calendar. - MOTION CARRIED.
