Advancing Gun and School Safety Measures / Improving Affordability through Tax Relief

The Senate recently voted to approve a package of gun-related bills, which passed along party lines. Omnibus author, Senator Zaynab Mohamed, DFL-Minneapolis, says the legislative package is comprehensive, including a ban on assault-style weapons, a limit on magazine capacity, and more funding for school safety and mental health services. Supporters say the bill contains reasonable measures to help prevent gun violence, while critics argue the bill contains unconstitutional restrictions and is likely to be challenged in court. For Senator Karin Housley, R-Stillwater, making Minnesota more affordable is a personal mission. Her family members have moved states because home prices were too high, and her hairdresser says the state's taxes on her tips and overtime are a burden. Here, Senator Housley details her plan to make Minnesota more budget-friendly for families - and it starts with providing tax relief for Minnesotans.
