1.1A Senate resolution

1.2recognizing Century College on its 50th anniversary.

1.3WHEREAS, Lakewood State Junior College opened its doors on September 18, 1967; and

 1.4WHEREAS, Lakewood State Junior College moved to its current location in 1969, and in 

1.51973 changed its name to Lakewood Community College; and

 1.6WHEREAS, Northeast Metro Technical College began as 916 Area Vocational/Technical 

1.7Institute in 1969 and moved into its present facility in 1972; and

 1.8WHEREAS, Lakewood Community College and Northeast Metro Technical College merged 

1.9in 1996 to become Century College; and

 1.10WHEREAS, Century College is now one of the largest and most diverse two-year institutions
         

1.11in the State of Minnesota with a student population of 21,000; and

 1.12WHEREAS, Century College has made higher education affordable through a variety of 

1.13programs and financial aid and provides one of the lowest tuition rates in the state;
         and

 1.14WHEREAS, Century College offers over 100 degree, diploma, and certificate programs as 

1.15well as customized training and continuing education; and

 1.16WHEREAS, students attending Century College are from the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, 

1.17the state, the region, and other countries; and

 1.18WHEREAS, Century College has been transforming lives for 50 years; and

 1.19WHEREAS, Century College is celebrating its 50th anniversary on April 19, 2018; and

 1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it 

1.21congratulates Century College on its 50th anniversary.

2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an 

2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature
         and that of the 

2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the president
         of Century
