1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Chungyia T. Thao.
1.3WHEREAS, Chungyia was born in Laos and immigrated to the United States after the
1.4Vietnam War as a refugee in 1987 before permanently settling in Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1990
1.5with his wife, Maiyoua Khang Thao, and their six children; and
1.6WHEREAS, in pursuit of the American dream, Chungyia pursued higher education,
1.7graduating with a Master of Science in Leadership from Marian University and a Master of Business
1.8Administration from Lakeland University; and
1.9WHEREAS, in 2000, Chungyia began his first Universal Translation business in his basement
1.10and continued to pursue business opportunities, including the Hmong Wisconsin Directory, Asian
1.11Taste Restaurant, and Asian Taste Supermarket, selling them in 2008; and
1.12WHEREAS, he is currently the President and CEO of Thao Enterprises, Inc., also known
1.13as Long Cheng Marketplace, which is an Asian-American mall in Fox Valley comprised of dozens
1.14of vendors; and
1.15WHEREAS, Chungyia is one of the most generous businessmen in the community, dedicating
1.16and serving the community in many roles, including organizing educational workshops and seminars,
1.17and serving as a wedding mediator, financial supporter, and many others; and
1.18WHEREAS, he has served on several boards, including Director of Hmong Wisconsin
1.19Chamber of Commerce, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, American Translator Association,
1.20and City Planning Commissioner for the city of Appleton; and
1.21WHEREAS, Chungyia currently serves as the Board President of the Hmong American
1.22Partnership of Fox Valley and Board Vice President of the Wisconsin United Coalition of Mutual
1.23Assistance Associations; and
1.24NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.25commends Chungyia T. Thao for his dedication, perseverance, and integrity, and celebrates his
1.26contributions, service, and generosity that extends beyond the state of Wisconsin.
1.27BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.28enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.29Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Chungyia T. Thao.
