1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the National Hmong Grave Desecration Committee.
1.3WHEREAS, burial grounds are regarded as sacred to many indigenous people such as the
1.4Hmong; and
1.5WHEREAS, countless Hmong refugee graves were desecrated in refugee camps throughout
1.6Thailand including Wat Thamkrabok in 2005; and
1.7WHEREAS, the National Hmong Grave Desecration Committee, a world Hmong
1.8anti-grave-desecration organization, was formed by local and global Hmong civic leaders to pursue
1.9the reclamation and reburial of Hmong remains with dignity; and
1.10WHEREAS, on December 18, 2016, with the partnership of distinguished Thai officials,
1.11Hmong-Thai, and over 31,000 other supporters, the committee successfully reclaimed and reburied
1.12the located remains at Lao Oo, Chiangrai, Thailand; and
1.13WHEREAS, today, September 16, 2017, we commemorate those whose graves have been
1.14desecrated in Thailand, honoring them with dignity; and
1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.16recognizes the work of the National Hmong Grave Desecration Committee and its ongoing vision
1.17to uplift the dignity of Hmong people around the world.
1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.19enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.20Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the National Hmong
1.21Grave Desecration Committee.
