1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Second Lieutenant Chue Her.
1.3WHEREAS, Chue Her was born in 1946 in Xiangkhouang Province, Laos, attended Lece
1.4College in 1967, and volunteered for the Royal Lao Armed Forces and started his military training
1.5in 1968; and
1.6WHEREAS, Chue was first commissioned into Forward Air Guide, where he was at the
1.7front line coordinating food and medicine drops for civilians and weapon and ammunition drops
1.8for military use; and
1.9WHEREAS, in 1970, Chue was stationed in San Pau Ka, which fell into enemy hands,
1.10forcing the soldiers to engage in enemy fire multiple times. He heroically radioed Hunter Station
1.11at Bouam for backup, and within two hours an aircraft responded to his smoke signal in the rice
1.12field, saving several wounded soldiers; and
1.13WHEREAS, from 1971 to 1975, Chue was assigned to several locations including Plan de
1.14Jars, Ban Khanko, Savannakhet Province at MouangPhim, Ban Nong Pet, and the Joint Operation
1.15Center radio station in Long Tieng; and
1.16WHEREAS, when Long Tieng fell to communist forces in 1975, Chue was sent to communist
1.17reeducation camps in Phonsavan, Xiangkhouang, until 1980, concealing his identity while moving
1.18throughout northern Laos; and
1.19WHEREAS, in 1984, Chue and his family left Laos and fled to the refugee camps in Thailand,
1.20where he worked at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, helping
1.21with the resettlement process; and
1.22WHEREAS, in late 1986, Chue and his family arrived in the United States and settled in
1.23Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he began working and raising his family until his retirement in 2011;
1.24and
2.1WHEREAS, Chue is a respected elder and prominent leader in the community; and
2.2NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.3honors Second Lieutenant Chue Her for his service in the Vietnam War, his heroic valor on the
2.4field, and his leadership and influence in the community.
2.5BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.6enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.7Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Second Lieutenant
2.8Chue Her.
