1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Thein Moving Company on the occasion of its 125th anniversary.
1.3WHEREAS, our state is enriched by the presence of those businesses that have withstood
1.4the test of time and continue to succeed and thrive, providing good jobs and bettering our
1.5communities; and
1.6WHEREAS, the Thein family has been moving buildings in the Clara City area since 1892;
1.7Eugene Thein Sr. would move a few buildings every year while also drilling wells, though moving
1.8buildings around 1900 was extremely hard work, with mostly manual labor required; and
1.9WHEREAS, in 1924, John Thein and his brother George took over the moving business,
1.10which was now in conjunction with an implement business, and John purchased some new timbers
1.11and used steel wheel dollies for hauling buildings; in 1943, John took over the moving business
1.12and it became a full-time operation, with John working an area of about 50 miles around Clara City,
1.13purchasing a new truck to pull buildings and rubber tire dollies to haul them on; and
1.14WHEREAS, in 1966, John incorporated the moving business and it became Thein Moving
1.15Company, with his sons Jim and Tom Thein now managing the company; major changes in the
1.16moving business took place at this time, with unified hydraulic jacking systems used in lifting
1.17buildings, and new dollies were built, with steel beams and large trucks used to haul and pull larger
1.18buildings; and
1.19WHEREAS, John Thein passed away in February 1992, and Jim's son Tim and Tom's son
1.20Matt became the Thein family's fourth generation of house movers; for more than a century, Thein
1.21Moving Company has grown and changed with the moving industry, and today it covers a five-state
1.22area comprising Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin; and
2.1NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.2congratulates Thein Moving Company on the occasion of its 125th anniversary, and extends best
2.3wishes to the company and its employees for the future.
2.4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.5enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.6Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Thein Moving Company.
