1.1A Senate resolution

         		1.2honoring Apple Valley soccer coach Chuck Scanlon on the occasion of his 

         		1.3retirement.

         		1.4WHEREAS, youth athletics coaches not only provide sports-specific skills training, they 

         		1.5develop invaluable character traits such as discipline, preparation, and perseverance; and 

         		1.6WHEREAS, Chuck Scanlon established the soccer program at Apple Valley High School 

         		1.7in 1978 and coached the Eagles to their first state tournament in 1983; and 

         		1.8WHEREAS, Apple Valley won its first state soccer championship in 1984, and went on to 

         		1.9win eight more state titles under the leadership of Scanlon; and 

         		1.10WHEREAS, he also coached the Apple Valley girls hockey team to two state titles; and 

         		1.11WHEREAS, Scanlon has been inducted into the respective halls of fame of the Minnesota 

         		1.12State High School League and Bemidji State University and was named National High School 

         		1.13Coaches Association boys soccer coach of the year in 2010; and 

         		1.14WHEREAS, Chuck Scanlon will retire this spring from coaching as well as from his 

         		1.15position teaching safety education at Apple Valley High School; and 

         		1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it 

         		1.17recognizes the illustrious coaching career of Chuck Scanlon and honors him on the occasion of 

         		1.18his retirement.

         		1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an 

         		1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's  signature and that of the 

         		1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Chuck Scanlon.
