1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Al's Drive-In on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
1.3WHEREAS, in 1965, John Alfred (Al) and Theresa (Kruschek) Sand built and opened Al's
1.4Drive-In using half their garden plot in Pierz, Minnesota; and
1.5WHEREAS, their 14 children, (Mary, Kathy, Claude, Jim, Bob, Neil, Juletta, Betsy, Paul,
1.6Christine, Pam, Ann, Mike, and Jane) worked with their parents at "The Drive-In"; and
1.7WHEREAS, the Drive-In has served its renowned homemade-from-scratch onion
1.8rings and barbecue sandwiches from Theresa Sand's original recipes to such notables as Tom
1.9Cruise, Governor Jesse Ventura and staff, Mayor R.T. Rybak, StarTribune reporters, Brainerd
1.10Speedway racers, Camp Ripley soldiers, KFAN radio hosts, author John Sanford, and thousands
1.11of going-north tourists; and
1.12WHEREAS, the Drive-In has committed to only serving the freshest, high-quality and
1.13locally sourced foods, such as Pierz Thielen Meats, which has earned the highest respect of
1.14returning customers; and
1.15WHEREAS, the Drive-In was voted by travelers as the place to stop for food in Pierz,
1.16Minnesota, in the book Brainerd Bound and in numerous other state and local publications; and
1.17WHEREAS, Al's Drive-In (later Sue's Drive-In) has been in continuous operation for 50
1.18years; and
1.19NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.20recognizes "The Drive-In" as an exemplary Minnesota business for continuously providing
1.21high-quality food and service for 50 years from 1965 to 2015.
1.22BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.23enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.24Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Sand family.
