1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Grant D. Haugen of Alexandria on receiving the Minnesota
1.3Marine of the Year Award.
1.4WHEREAS, men and women who served in the United States armed forces are to be
1.5commended for their heroic service in defense of our country and in the spread of freedom and
1.6democracy throughout the world; and
1.7WHEREAS, Grant D. Haugen was a past Commander of the local VFW Post 936, past
1.8President of the Local Vietnam Veterans Chapter 235, and past Adjutant of the American Legion
1.9Post 87; and
1.10WHEREAS, Grant was nominated for the Minnesota Marine of the Year Award because
1.11of his leadership skills in helping organize the local Runestone Detachment 1409 Marine Corps
1.12League in 2013, of which he now serves as its Commandant; and
1.13WHEREAS, he also helped to organize the "Toys for Kids" program, which works in
1.14collaboration with Love Inc. as a distribution point for toys for kids and families in need for the
1.15local area during the Christmas season; and
1.16WHEREAS, based on his many outstanding contributions to his state and community,
1.17Grant received the Minnesota Marine of the Year Award on May 1, 2015, in Owatonna at the
1.18Marine Corps League, Department of Minnesota 2015 Convention; and
1.19NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.20that it congratulates Grant D. Haugen of Alexandria on receiving the Minnesota Marine of the
1.21Year Award.
1.22BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.23enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.24Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Grant D. Haugen.
