1.1A Senate resolution
1.2celebrating 50 years of Hmong American communities.
1.3WHEREAS, 2025 marks 50 years of Hmong being Americans, bestowing humility, courage
1.4and perseverance. The Hmong American trail of tears led back to Southeast Asia and further to
1.5China many centuries prior; and
1.6WHEREAS, during the Vietnam War, the United States recruited the Hmong in Laos as
1.7American proxy soldiers to fight in the Secret War from 1961 to 1975; and
1.8WHEREAS, after the United States withdrew its support from Southeast Asia, thousands
1.9of Hmong families facing persecution were forced to leave Laos beginning May 14th, 1975. They
1.10fled first to Thailand and then to America; and
1.11WHEREAS, today Hmong Americans and friends celebrate the progress of 50 years, from
1.12trial and tribulation to self-sufficiency and family stability. Happy Hmong 50! THOV SUAV

1.14NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.15honors 50 years of Hmong American communities and thanks the veterans of the Secret War for
1.16their service.
1.17BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.18enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.19Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Fresno Center,
1.20SGU Veterans and Families of California, and the Lao Veterans of America Institute.
