1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Tuesday, July 10, 2012, as K.J. McDonald Day.
1.3WHEREAS, those who maintain the highest standards of excellence in state and local
1.4government perform an important community service deserving of special legislative recognition;
1.5and
1.6WHEREAS, K.J. McDonald's ancestors emigrated from Ireland in the 1800s and settled in
1.7an area of land near Watertown, now known as Hollywood Township, and began farming the
1.8land and to make better lives for themselves in America; and
1.9WHEREAS, K.J. and his wife, Barbara, followed in their ancestors' footsteps to make the
1.10Watertown area their home, and over the last 50 years, they have raised their seven children
1.11there; and
1.12WHEREAS, much of K.J.'s love for Watertown is evident in his beautiful photography,
1.13and what began as a hobby and an Air Force assignment later turned into a successful career
1.14as a professional photographer; and
1.15WHEREAS, nearly everyone in town has heard of K.J.'s role as a master photographer and
1.16everyone knows about his love of community and country; and
1.17WHEREAS, K.J. served his country honorably in the Korean War, his state, during his 14
1.18years as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, and his community, during his
1.19past and current term as the jovial Mayor of Watertown; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.21because of this genuine care of country and community and years of public service, it recognizes
1.22Tuesday, July 10, 2012, as K.J. McDonald Day.
1.23BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.24enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.25Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to K.J. McDonald.
