At the age of 38, Floyd B. Olson was elected as the 22nd Governor of Minnesota. He was the first Farmer-Labor candidate to hold the office. Governor Floyd B. Olson served from 1930-36 while the country was in the midst of the Depression. He is remembered for his unyielding support for people in need. Gov. Olson gained national attention when he declared martial law in Minneapolis during a violent truck drivers' strike and was considered a potential candidate for the U.S. Presidency. Governor Floyd B. Olson died from stomach cancer in 1936.
