S.F. No. 3745 - Permitting Addition of Unorganized Territory in Itasca County to Harris Township

Author: Senator Justin D. Eichorn

Prepared By: Joan White, Senate Counsel (651/296-3814)

Date: March 2, 2020

Current law allows a boundary to be changed if at least 20 legal voters residing in the territory sign a petition.   This bill provides that if the Itasca Board of County Commissioners determines that there are not 20 or more legal voters residing in the territory described in paragraph (b), the county board may, by resolution, add the territory to Harris Township, if the township board adopts a resolution requesting this action. This is effective the day after both the Itasca Board and Harris Township Board adopt resolutions, and the chief clerical officers make the necessary filings with the secretary of state.
