Section 1. Grant program; firearms safety, archery, hunting, and angling in school physical education courses.

Subd. 1. Program. Requires the commissioner of natural resources to create a grant program to increase firearms safety, trap shooting, archery, hunting, and angling activities in school district physical education courses, consistent with academic standards. Requires the commissioner to consult with certain Native American groups in designing the grant program.

Subd. 2. Eligibility. Provides that a school district or tribal contract or grant school is eligible to apply for  a grant. Requires the commissioner to seek geographic balance among schools selected for participation.

Subd. 3. Report. Requires the commissioner to report on outcomes of the grant.

Subd. 4. Appropriation. Appropriates money from the general fund to implement the grant program. Authorizes the appropriation to be used for DNR personnel costs, curriculum development, reporting costs, school staff training, outdoor sports licenses for participating students, and equipment used in courses.
