S.F. No. 378 - Changing Eligibility for the State Grant Program for Institutions (with proprosed A-2 Amendment)

Author: Senator Karla Bigham

Prepared By: Joan White, Senate Counsel (651/296-3814)

Date: March 18, 2019

S.F. No. 378 amends the statute specifying the state grant eligibility requirements for institutions. The bill restricts eligibility to private nonprofit institutions. Under current law, private for-profit institutions are eligible if certain requirements are met. The A-2 amendment adds that private institutions with a regional accreditation that are registered with the Office of Higher Education are eligible for state grants. This would include Rasmussen and National American University.  The effective date makes this bill effective for grants for students enrolling for the first time in the fall of 2020.
