SF 440 appropriates $15,000,000 in fiscal year 2020 from the general fund to the commissioner of administration for equipment grants to public television stations. The commissioner is permitted to use up to 1.5 percent of the appropriation for administrative costs.

Before receiving a grant, the station must submit a list of equipment the station will purchase. The commissioner must not require a station to purchase equipment prior to receiving grant money. The station must report to the commissioner on the equipment purchased with the grant.

The appropriation is allocated as follows:

  • $4,285,714 to Twin Cities PBS
  • $2,142,857 to KSMQ public television in Austin
  • $2,142,857 to Pioneer Public Television in Granite Falls
  • $2,142,857 to Lakeland PBS in Bemidji
  • $2,142,857 to Prairie Public in Fargo/Moorhead
  • $2,142,857 to WDSE public television in Duluth

Grant funds may be used in either fiscal year 2020 or fiscal year 2021.
