S.F. No. 15 - Requiring School Districts to Provide Certain Access to Career Options in the Military

Author: Senator Michael P. Goggin

Prepared By: Joan White, Senate Counsel (651/296-3814)

Date: February 18, 2019

S.F. No. 15 modifies the Department of Education chapter of law, specifically related to students’ successful transition to postsecondary education and employment, by requiring school districts to include in the students’ transition plan help in accessing career options in the armed forces.

This bill also adds two new paragraphs.

Paragraph (g) requires school districts to provide military recruiters and representatives of organizations promoting careers in the skilled trades and manufacturing the same access to students as institutions of higher education or prospective employers.

Paragraph (h) encourages school districts to sponsor an armed forces career opportunity day each school year prior to the third Thursday of November.
