S.F. No. 779 appropriates $5,500,000 in fiscal year 2020 to the commissioner of human services for renovation of the former KidsPeace Mesabi Academy in Buhl, Minnesota, into a facility that includes a 26-bed stabilization and evaluation unit for children ages 10 to 18 experiencing mental health or child welfare trauma, and a family center that provides crisis counseling, mediation and reunification services, supervised visitation, outpatient therapy, diagnostic assessments, Rule 25 assessments, and other services. The family center will also include four classrooms for children in the stabilization and evaluation unit.
