S.F. No. 1202 - Eliminating Crime of Unauthorized use of the Word "Portorama"

Author: Senator Erik Simonson

Prepared By: Joan White, Senate Counsel (651/296-3814)

Date: February 15, 2019

S.F. No. 1202 repeals three statutes related to the word “Portorama.”  The statutes restrict the use of the word, except as authorized by the Duluth Jaycees, and imposes a misdemeanor penalty for violating the statute.  The term “Portorama” was a festival in Duluth sponsored by the Duluth Jaycees in the 1960s.
