S.F. No. 3924 - Expanding Area of Iron Range Fiscal Disparities Program

Author: Senator Justin D. Eichorn

Prepared By: Eric S. Silvia, Senate Counsel (651/296-1771)

Date: April 17, 2018

SF 3924 expands the geographical area of the Iron Range fiscal disparities program. Currently, the program operates in the “taconite assistance area” which is comprised of 15 school districts in portions of 7 northeastern counties. This bill would expand the area to include the remaining portions of any county where at least 35% of the county’s net tax capacity is within the taconite assistance area. The program’s administrative auditor is required to determine qualification under this change prior to May 1st of each year.

Effective beginning with taxes payable in 2019.
