S.F. No. 2641 - Service cooperatives inclusion in definition of governmental units for purposes of joint powers

Author: Senator Carrie Ruud

Prepared By: Priyanka Premo, Senate Counsel (651/296-3914)

Date: March 12, 2018

Service cooperatives are established under Minn. Stat. § 123A.21 to help school districts within their respective regions by providing a range of services and programs, including data processing, staff development, and health insurance programs.

S.F. 2641 amends the statute governing the exercise of joint powers by making it applicable to service cooperatives. Service cooperatives may enter into agreements with other governmental units to provide services jointly.
