Author: Senator Michelle L. Fischbach

Prepared By: Liam Monahan, Senate Analyst (651/296-1791)

Date: March 9, 2018

SF 2610 directs the commissioner of human services to seek a waiver from a federal prohibition against providing any services offered under the developmental disability waiver to waiver participants while the participant is an inpatient in a hospital while receiving acute medical care.  In particular, the commissioner is directed to seek a waiver to permit developmental disability waiver participants to receive nonmedical-care-related services while receiving acute medical care as an inpatient in order to support the participant in communication, positive behaviors, self-care, and socialization during a hospital stay.
