Section 1.  Special construction materials permit.  Creates a special permit that increases the permissible gross vehicle weight for six- or seven-axle vehicles hauling construction materials.

Subdivision 1.  Definition.  Provides a definition of “construction materials.”

Subdivision 2.  Six-axle vehicles.  The commissioner of transportation may issue an annual permit for six-axle vehicles to haul construction materials of up to 90,000 lbs. any time and up to 99,000 lbs. during the winter.  The fee is $300.

Subdivision 3.  Seven-axle vehicle.  The commissioner of transportation may issue an annual permit for seven-axle vehicles to haul construction materials of up to 97,000 lbs. any time and up to 99,000 lbs. during the winter.  The fee is $500.

Subdivision 4.  Authority; restriction. A permit is valid for operation on all highways and streets, including local roads; a permit is not valid for operation on an interstate.

Subdivision 5.  Revenues.  Revenue from permits are deposited in the town bridge account and is available to inspect and post weight limits for town bridges.

Subdivision 6.  Expiration date.  Upon request, the expiration date of the permit must be the same as the expiration date of the vehicle’s registration.

This section is effective the day following final enactment.
