Section 1 [Military Personnel] Allows current members of the active and reserve components of the United States armed forces or state National Guard or their dependents to receive a free annual pass to the state’s parks. Current law provides for a free one-day park permit.
To receive the free annual pass, a qualifying military identification or an annual pass issued through the Nationals Parks and Federal Lands Pass Program must be presented. The commissioner will establish what constitutes a qualifying military identification by publishing a written order in the State Register.
Section 2 [Disabled Veterans] Allows veterans with any level of service-connected disability to receive a free annual pass to the state’s parks. Current law provides for a daily park permit to any resident veteran with a total and permanent service-connected disability.
To receive the free annual pass, the disabled veteran must present a copy of the veteran’s determination letter or other official form of validation from the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs or Defense.
For both military personnel and disabled veterans, the annual permit or decal is valid only when displayed on the vehicle owned and occupied by the person to whom the permit is issued. If the person does not own or operate a motor vehicle, the commissioner may issue a free daily vehicle permit.
