Section 1 [Immigration Integration Advisory Task Force] creates an Immigration Integration Advisory Task Force.  This section does the following:

  • describes membership and appointing authorities.  The membership includes two representatives of the House of Representatives, two senators, and five members appointed by the Governor to represent diverse immigrant communities;
  • requires the group to elect and chair and cochair from its membership at its first meeting;
  • requires the Commissioner of Human Rights to provide meeting space and administrative and staff support;
  • describes the duties of the task force;
  • requires the task force to consult with three statutory ethnic councils;
  • requires the task force to report to the legislature by January 15, 2017, with recommendations and draft legislation for changes to state laws to reduce negative impact of state laws on immigration, and to ensure that future state laws and rules consider the impact on immigrants;
  • sets deadlines for initial appointments and date for convening the first meeting;
  • requires that public members be compensated and reimbursed for expenses; and
  • sunsets the task force by January 30, 2017.
