Section 1 [144.586] allows hospitals 24 hours to provide notice to patients they place on observation status that Medicare may not cover (1) hospital services, or (2) upon discharge, home and community-based care or care provided at a skilled nursing facility.
This section also requires hospitals to provide discharge planning that complies with federal hospital requirements.
