This bill amends the definition of “directory information” under the educational data statute to incorporate federal changes to the definition that were in effect as of January 3, 2012, to the extent required under federal law. This has the effect of allowing an educational institution to require students to wear a student ID card or badge, even if the student or parent has opted out of the disclosure of directory information. In addition, a school could limit the disclosure of directory information to specific parties or for specific purposes. For example, a school could share addresses only with the public library for purposes of issuing library cards for students.
An immediate effective date is included.
