S.F. No. 2245 provides minimum training requirements for lifeguards at public swimming beaches.
Section 1, subdivision 1, provides relevant definitions. A political subdivision means a city, county, town, or other political subdivision. A public swimming beach is an area abutting a body of water that is owned or operated by the political subdivision and is intended to be open to the public for swimming; the definition excludes swimming pools.

Lifeguards at these beaches must be certified in first aid and CPR, have an American Red Cross lifeguard certification, and be responsible for the supervision and safety of people at the beach while on duty.
