S.F. No. 2761 - City of Waite Park Local Option Sales Tax

Author: Senator John C. Pederson

Prepared By: Nora Pollock, Senate Counsel (651/297-8066)

Date: March 24, 2014

This bill authorizes the city of Waite Park to impose a half-percent local sales and use tax.  The imposition of the tax must be adopted by resolution by the city.  The resolution must include information on the proposed tax rate, how the revenues will be used, the annual revenue raised by the proposed tax, and the estimated length of time the tax will be in effect.  The tax must then be approved by the voters at a general election.  The tax revenues must be used to pay the costs of local law enforcement, fire department, and first responder services.  The tax is terminated by ordinance of the city.
