Author: Senator Roger Reinert

Prepared By: Krista Boyd, Senate Fiscal Analyst (651/296-7681)

Date: March 18, 2014

Section 1 changes the section of statute that prescribes the circumstances under which a motor vehicle may be towed from public property in the following ways:

  • Eliminates the requirements of a parking citation and written, signed towing report that describes the vehicle and states the reasons for towing;
  • Expands authority to order a tow from a peace officer or parking enforcement officer to add a fire department officer or another state or local authority;
  • Requires written report after the tow by the towing authority to the officer who ordered the tow, stating that the towing authority received authorization and towed the vehicle.

This section is effective the day following final enactment.
