S.F. No. 2036 - North Branch Public Utilities Commission Membership Increase

Author: Senator Sean R. Nienow

Prepared By: Alexis C. Stangl, Senate Counsel (651/296-4397)

Date: March 18, 2014

S.F. No. 2036 allows the city of North Branch to increase the number of Public Utility Commission members to a maximum of seven members.  This must be done by ordinance.  The ordinance must also provide for staggered terms.  The ordinance may provide that residency within the city is not required to be a member.  The ordinance may provide that two members of the city council are allowed to serve on the commission.  All statutes governing public utility commissions that are not in conflict with the specific provisions of the bill still apply to the commission.  The act is effective the day following completion of the local approval requirements.
