Author: Senator John Marty

Prepared By: Alexis C. Stangl, Senate Counsel (651/296-4397)

Date: March 14, 2014

S. F. 1730 eliminates a gift ban exemption that was enacted in 2013.  The exception being eliminated allows legislators and legislative employees to accept food and beverage at an event if notice was provided to all members of the legislature at least five days before the event.  The exemption for food or beverage given at an event if the recipient appears to make a speech or answer questions is not changed in this bill.  The bill has an immediate effective date.
