S.F. No. 2268 - Transportation Accessibility Advisory Committee Scope of Jurisdiction Expansion

Author: Senator Jim Carlson

Prepared By: Krista Boyd, Senate Fiscal Analyst (651/296-7681)

Date: March 11, 2014

Section 1 recodifies the statute specifying duties and membership of the Transportation Accessibility Advisory Committee (TAAC).  The section places the language within the statutory section on the Metropolitan Council’s powers related to transit in general.  Current language regarding TAAC membership is unchanged.  Duties of the TAAC regarding special transportation services are retained, with these additions:

  • TAAC is directed to advise the council on accessibility policies for all aspects of fixed regular route transit, in addition to the current direction to advise the Council on special transportation services.
  • TAAC is directed to advise the council on long-range plans to meet accessible transportation needs of the disability community.

Section 2 amends the section of law on special transportation services by removing the TAAC language, which is described in section 1.

Section 3 provides an immediate effective date for sections 1 and 2.
