S.F. No. 1917 - Modifying Executive Branch Advisory Groups; Provisions Related to Transportation/Public Safety

Author: Senator Melissa H. Wiklund

Prepared By: Krista Boyd, Senate Fiscal Analyst (651/296-7681)

Date: March 10, 2014

Article 1 modifies certain sections of statute dealing with advisory committees.

Section 7 repeals several sections and subdivisions, including section 15.059, subdivision 5, which provides for the expiration of most advisory councils and committees on the earlier of June 30, 2009, or the date specified in the law establishing the group.

Article 2 contains conforming changes to sections that cite statutes that are repealed in Article 1.

Section 7 strikes language in the following sections in Article 2 that exempt named transportation/public safety groups from the repealed section 15.059, subdivision 5:

  • the county screening board (section 22);
  • the municipal screening board (section 23);
  • the advisory committee, created to recommend expenditures from the trunk highway corridor projects account (section 24); and
  • the Capitol Area Security advisory committee (section 36).  The statute creating this committee provides for an expiration date of June 30, 2022.
