Author: Senator Kevin Dahle

Prepared By: Alexis C. Stangl, Senate Counsel (651/296-4397)

Date: March 6, 2014

Section 1.  The Cedar Lake area water and sanitary sewer districts comprehensive plan must provide for no more than 364 connections to the disposal system.  This is an increase from the currently allowed 325 connections.  This section is effective the day after local approval requirements are satisfied.

Section 2.  This section only applies to the subordinate service district established in Helena Township for the Silver Maple Bay Estates.  If the district is removed and after all outstanding obligations are paid in full, the town board may vote to sell or use surplus property or the surplus of tax revenues or services charges collected from the district to connect property owners in the former district to another public sewer system.  Any surplus not used to connect residents may be distributed equally to property owners in the former district that were charged the extra tax or service fee during the most recent tax year.  Any surplus not refunded must be transferred to the town’s general fund.  This section is effective the day after local approval requirements are satisfied.
