S.F. No. 1324 - Providing Reimbursement to Hennepin County Taxing Jurisdictions for Disaster Abatements Granted for 2011 Tornado

Author: Senator Bobby Joe Champion

Prepared By: Eric S. Silvia, Senate Counsel (651/296-1771)

Date: April 8, 2013

S.F. 1324 authorizes the commissioner of revenue to reimburse taxing jurisdictions for property tax abatements granted in Hennepin County as a result of the May 2011 tornadoes.  The legislature had authorized abatements with state reimbursement in 2011, but Hennepin County’s request for reimbursement was submitted after the deadline. An amount necessary, but not exceeding $400,000, is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner to make the necessary payments. This appropriation is available until June 30, 2014.

Effective the day following final enactment.
