S.F. No. 558 - Modifying Emergency Medical Services Special Taxing Districts

Author: Senator James P. Metzen

Prepared By: Eric S. Silvia, Senate Counsel (651/296-1771)

Date: March 7, 2014

S.F. 558 increases the property tax levy authority for emergency medical services special taxing districts. Currently, a district’s board is authorized to levy a tax on taxable real and personal property in the district which may not exceed .048 percent of the taxable market value of the district or $400,000, whichever is less.  The proposed change allows each participating political subdivision within the district to levy up to that same amount.
