S.F. 527 provides that the provisions of the open meeting law do not apply to participation in social media forums by members of a public body as long as the forum is open for public participation; (ii) the fora to be used are identified at a public meeting and are publicly posted; (iii) participation is discussion only and no decisions are made; (iv) use of the fora is not the sole or primary means of deliberation; and (v) participation does not take the place of any required public meeting or hearing.  A definition of social media is provided.
