S.F. No. 1222 - Career and Technical Revenue Modification

Author: Senator LeRoy A. Stumpf

Prepared By: Bjorn E. Arneson, Senate Analyst (651/296-3812)

Date: March 20, 2013

S.F. 1222 modifies the existing Career and Technical Revenue Program by introducing equalized aid and increasing the total amount of revenue available to qualifying districts.

The bill increases the total career and technical revenue approximately 25 percent over current law.

In current law, the revenue consists entirely of local levy.  Beginning in fiscal year 2015, a new aid component would equalize the levy effort for some districts.  The amount of equalized aid for a district would be a function of the district’s adjusted net tax capacity per pupil unit.

A district may choose to levy less than the permitted career and technical levy, in which case its career and technical aid would be reduced proportionally.
