S.F. No. 118 - Radiation Therapy Facilities

Author: Senator Jeff Hayden

Prepared By:

Date: February 1, 2013

SF118 extends the current moratorium on any construction of radiation therapy facilities within the following counties:  Hennepin; Ramsey; Dakota; Washington; Anoka; Carver; Scott; St. Louis; Sherburne; Benton; Stearns; Chisago; Isanti; and Wright.  Currently the moratorium expires on August 1, 2014.  This would extend the moratorium until December, 31, 2020.

SF118 also changes one of the requirements for the construction of a radiation therapy facility within the counties listed after the expiration of the moratorium by requiring that the new radiation therapy facility be located outside of a 15-mile radius of any existing radiation therapy facility.  Currently, the requirement is that the new radiation therapy facility must be located at least 7 miles from any existing radiation therapy facility.
