This bill establishes a gross misdemeanor penalty for anyone who causes the death of another while driving carelessly.  The maximum sentence for a gross misdemeanor is imprisonment for one year and/or a $3,000 fine.

This section does not limit the state’s power to punish a person for criminal conduct under any other state law. This section is effective August 1, 2012, and applies to violations committed on or after that date.
