H.F. No. 537 - Recording of Certain Speed Limit Violations on Violator's Driving Record (First Engrossment)

Author: Senator Mike Parry

Prepared By: Krista Boyd, Senate Fiscal Analyst (651/296-7681)

Date: January 30, 2012

Section 1 requires the uniform traffic ticket to provide a space to indicate whether the violator’s speed in a 60 miles per hour zone exceeded 70 miles per hour.  Current law requires the ticket to indicate whether speed in a 60 miles per hour zone exceeded 65 miles per hour.

Section 2 prohibits the Department of Public Safety from recording on a driving record a speeding violation in a 60 miles per hour zone that does not exceed 70 miles per hour.  Current law prohibits recording a violation in a 60 miles per hour zone that does not exceed 65 miles per hour.

This bill does not affect current law that a speed violation in a 55 miles per hour zone that does not exceed 65 miles per hour may not be recorded on a driving record.
