Senator David Osmek was born in Glencoe MN and raised on a farm in Biscay where the largest commercial business was a city liquor store.  He graduated from Glencoe Senior High in 1983 and attended Moorhead State and St. Cloud State where he earned a bachelor’s degree in elective studies.

Senator Osmek represents District 33 in the Minnesota Senate, which includes western Hennepin County and the City of Chanhassen in Carver County.  He serves on three committees:  Environment and Energy, Transportation and Public Safety, and Environment, Economic Development and Agriculture Finance.  Prior to his election in 2012, he served on the Mound City Council for 11 years.

Senator Osmek began his 20 year business career working in the healthcare industry for several companies including Medica, United Behavioral Systems, and Diversified Pharmaceuticals/Express Scripts.  He currently works as a Project Manager for Ingenix/Optum where he is responsible for data processing and reporting for over 130,000 military servicemen, their dependants and retirees.

Senator Osmek has been active in his community, volunteering for Gillespie Senior Center, Our Lady of knights of Columbus, and Adopt-a-Greenspace in Mound.  He has also been active in Republican Party political process serving as a database coordinator and volunteer for Mark Kennedy’s 2006 campaign, and many years as head teller and delegate at the state endorsement convention.  

When not working or at the Capitol, Senator Osmek lives in the City of Mound with his Wife Kari and two daughters Christine and Samantha.  In his free time he likes to play golf and relax with his family at the cabin.  He is also an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
