About the Debate:
The Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee heard testimony on a bill that would virtually ban phosphorus from dishwasher detergents sold in Minnesota. Proponets argue the legislation if passed, would help reduce algae in Minnesota's lakes and streams. Opponents argue the alternative diswasher detergents have other ingredients that are not presently treatable at most water treatment plants.

The committee will continue discussion on the bill.
