| Senate Majority Leader Roger Moe, Senator Dean Johnson, Senator Dave Johnson, Senator Leo Foley and Senator Keith Langseth release the Senate Democrats Transportation Funding Package. The plan raises $7.5 billion over the next 10 years for roads, bridges and transit. Highlights of the proposal include: a 7 cent gas tax increase (constitutionally dedicated for transportation in rural and metro), authorization of an additional $100 million each year in trunk highway bonds, higher license tab fees for newer cars and trucks, and an 11 county metro area referendum to increase the sales tax by a half-cent to help relieve congestion. |
