| Sen. Dick Day, Senate Minority Leader, outlines the Senate Republican's plan to deal with the state's $1.95 billion budget shortfall. The proposal, called "Kitchen Table Logic," includes: an 18 month hiring freeze for state employees (leaving 3,950 state jobs unfilled); and uses the following funds: $653 million from the budget reserve; $500 million from the state's tobacco settlement; $200 million from the Workers' Compensation Special Fund; $158 million from the Property Tax Account; $95 million from the Assigned Risk Plan and $14 million from the Local Government Aid Reform Account. Sen. Day was joined by Sen. Bill Belanger and Sen. Cal Larson. |
