| The Committee passes SF 2486: a bill that modifies requirements for major spending commitments of radiation therapy facilities and SF 2669: the Adminstration's proposal to establish the MN Emergency Health Powers Act. The committee heard much testimony on SF 2486 from both proponents and opponents of the bill. SF 2486 puts regulatory oversight on placement of radiation oncology centers within a 10 mile radius of existing radiation oncology centers. SF 2486 passes and was sent to the Senate Floor. SF 2669, the MN Emergency Health Powers Act, addresses the state's emergency planning and response plan if a public health emergency, like bioterrorism, were to occur in Minnesota. Commissioner of Health, Jan Malcolm, and Dr. Michael Osterholm, University of Minnesota, were among those that testified. SF 2669 passed and was referred to the Judiciary Committee. |
