| Committee: Judiciary | |
| Video Coverage: Civil commitment modifications. | |
| About the Bill: | |
| This bill modifies some of the provisions that guide how a mentally ill person
comes to be detained or civilly committed. Under current law, authorities can
order that a mentally ill person be detained for 72 hours for a hearing only if
the person poses "imminent" danger. This bill broads the authoritie's flexibility
in ordering that a mentally ill person be detained. Senator Don Betzold, DFL-Fridley) authored Senate File 0179.
The bill passed as amended and was referred to the Health and Family Security Committee. |
